A fine Gilt Napoleon III / Empire clock signed by Henri Picard, Jean Jacques Pradier, Susse Frères and retailed by 'Mayer a Paris',

Circa 1851.

The bell striking 8 day movement by Vincenti et Cie is stamped '1635' and shows the first Medaille D'argent stamp awarded to Vincenti et Cie from their works between 1834-1854. All works post 1854 then had the second stamp.

The gilt bronze figure of Sappho is signed by Jean-Jacques Pradier (James Pradier) and Susse Frères and also has '1635' stamped upon it along with '222' and H.Picard.

The superb gilt bronze and Carrara marble case is signed by Henri Picard to the rear lower left Gilt Bronze panel and '1635' to the rear lower right as shown in the images as are the ink markings to the inner case which also show '222' - '1635' , Susse (Frères) - Picard (Henri).

There is some details that has emerged that the clock was exhibited at the Great Exhibition of all Nations, London 1851 (see image).

Fantastic opportunity to acquire a very rare clock with fantastic provenance and original markings.

The Lyre and book to the Gilt Bronze Sappho have been misplaced. We are currently trying to seek them.
