Delightful Georgian Culpeper Microscope.

Tri l-form base complete with all lenses and the original concave mirror.

The base would benefit from new screws as they are slightly gouged and there is some play in the base but holds together perfectly fine, the gouged screws are enclosed by the chamber so not visible (please see images as these form part of the description)

Very rare piece.

History of Culpeper:

Edward Culpeper (1670-1737) was a mathematical instrument maker based in London, he developed this type of microscope between 1725 and 1730. The microscope had a tripod stand and also featured a concave mirror at the base instead of a flat mirror. This allowed light to be reflected and concentrated directly on to the object being studied.
